The Principal

The idea of starting the Islamic primary teachers training college in Mombasa was hatched far back in 1982. This was as a result of a course conducted in Mombasa, by a group of lecturers from Ummul-Qurah University, Makkah Saudi Arabia. The group of lecturers was led by Dr. Muhammad Jameel Khayati. The course was aimed at training lecturers to teach Islamic Religious Education in madrasa and schools. The course was very successful.

One of the co-organizers, National Union of Kenya Muslims Coast Branch, came up with the idea of establishing an Islamic Primary Teachers College to alleviate the chronic shortage of Islamic Religion Education (IRE) Teachers in such that in some areas in Kenya Muslim pupils/students are taught Christian religious education (CRE) .Religious studies is mandatory in Kenya Primary Education curriculum .

In 1983 the official of the National Union Of Kenya Muslim (NUKEM) coast branch were able to find a donor, the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) to construct the college .
Despite a few challenges on the available basic facilities, the college opened its door for the first intake in September 1994. A total number of fifty (50) male students were admitted. They included students from different part of the Republic among who were newly converted brothers.

The college has undergone transformation over the 19 years of its existence.

1994: starting of the college and admission of the first 50 Muslim male students.
1996: college got its Registration Certificate from the ministry of education science and technology.
2000: the college started the Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) certificate and diploma courses for nursery school teachers.
2004: The College which was initially meant for male students only started enrolling female Muslim students.
2006: The number of both male and female students was small and the fees collected could not sustain the activities at the college. The Board of Governors therefore decided to admit non-Muslims on self-sponsorship and the enrollment started to rise. To date July 2013 the college has 177 male and 162 female p1 students, 13 qualified teaching staff and 20 non-teaching staff.
DISCIPLINE
We are a very disciplined institution with Islamic moral values. This has earned reputation and ready market up on leaving the college.
The college operates on a system where male and female students in separate classrooms, have separate dining hall, facilities and use library on alternate days to avoid mixing.
